Built Here. Serving Here. Standing with Our Community.

Meet Rich Kaumo
As an accomplished law enforcement leader with nearly two decades of service, I have proudly served the citizens of Wyoming, with the majority of my career dedicated to Sweetwater County. Born and raised in Rock Springs, Wyoming, I have built a career rooted in my home community and currently serve as a Lieutenant with the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office. In this role, I oversee the operations and administrative functions of the Sweetwater County Detention Center, ensuring the safety, professionalism, and effectiveness of its daily operations.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving in a wide range of assignments, including detention deputy, detention sergeant, patrol deputy, school resource officer, D.A.R.E. officer, general detective, narcotics detective, patrol sergeant, SWAT team member, and currently as the agency’s Search and Rescue Team Leader. I have accumulated more than 3,500 hours of Wyoming POST training and continue to advance my professional development by pursuing a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in Strategic Leadership.
Beyond my professional responsibilities, I am a dedicated husband and father in a blended family. I value the time I spend with my loved ones and remain actively involved in supporting my children’s growth, education, and interests. Family life is central to who I am, whether we are exploring the outdoors, participating in recreational activities, or enjoying shared interests such as football, BMX, and dance. I find balance and fulfillment in pursuits that strengthen my connection to my family, my community, and service through volunteerism.
Currently, I serve as a member of the State of Wyoming Search and Rescue Council, a steering committee member for the Wyoming Search and Rescue Conference, an advisor to the National Autism Safety Council, a Sweetwater County 4-H Shooting Sports Club instructor, a volunteer with the Southwest Wyoming BMX Association, and an advisor to the Sweetwater County Outdoor Recreation Collaborative.
